0.740000 2.900000 Is God trustworthy?
2.900000 5.240000 Hi, I'm Sarah.

18.540000 20.940000 This is trustworthy.
20.940000 38.400000 Well, happy new year, Mary Beth.
38.400000 39.400000 Happy new year, Sarah.
39.400000 41.960000 I have a question for you.
41.960000 42.960000 You always do.
42.960000 43.960000 Yes.
43.960000 44.960000 Let's hear it.
44.960000 51.200000 Should old acquaintance be forgotten?
51.200000 54.460000 Should or should not, it be forgotten.
54.460000 55.900000 That is the question.
55.900000 59.140000 I think there are some old acquaintances that I'm happy to forget.
59.140000 62.180000 I hope you're not referring to me.
62.180000 63.180000 No, you're...
63.180000 64.420000 Well, I'm a newer acquaintance.
64.420000 65.820000 You're a newer acquaintance.
65.820000 69.060000 And even if you're an older acquaintance, I would never forget you.
69.060000 70.220000 Thank you so much.
70.220000 73.520000 People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
73.520000 74.520000 I know, well I hope you're all three.
76.560000 77.560000 Okay.
77.560000 78.560000 I'll accept that.
78.560000 79.560000 Thank you.
79.560000 80.560000 Oh, you're welcome.
80.560000 82.560000 What does auld lang syne mean?
82.560000 84.560000 Let's look it up.
84.560000 88.080000 Auld lang syne meaning.
88.080000 89.560000 Times long past.
89.560000 91.640000 There we go.
91.640000 95.400000 Appropriate for the end of one year and the beginning of the next.
95.400000 96.400000 Very appropriate.
96.400000 99.840000 What a year 2024 has been for us.
99.840000 100.840000 Yeah.
100.840000 101.840000 It was...
101.840000 102.840000 We made a podcast.
102.840000 103.840000 We did make a podcast.
103.840000 104.840000 Pretty amazing.
104.840000 105.840000 Yeah.
105.840000 108.300000 I've had a lot of fun.
108.300000 109.800000 It's New Year's Eve when this is airing.
109.800000 114.640000 I like New Year's Eve because there's this level of excitement.
114.640000 119.800000 You get to get out of all the Christmas cookie leftovers.
119.800000 126.960000 Actually, I usually set aside some choice Christmas cookies in the freezer, especially for
126.960000 127.960000 New Year's Eve.
127.960000 128.960000 That was very intentional.
128.960000 129.960000 Oh, yes.
129.960000 133.800000 Whenever I make my cookies, I make up a special tray for New Year's Eve.
133.800000 142.780000 And freeze it so that it won't be like the broken pieces of cookies, stale kind of things,
142.780000 147.000000 with like a fresh little display of cookies just for New Year's Eve.
147.000000 156.200000 I like to have friends over, play games, watch the ball drop, drink some bubbly.
156.200000 158.800000 Do you watch the New Year's rockin eve?
158.800000 162.280000 I typically switch back and forth.
162.280000 168.720000 I used to always like to watch Dick Clark back in the day, but I so I do still watch the
168.720000 172.560000 rockin eve, but I do switch to some of the other.
172.560000 177.200000 I think Nashville's had one the last few years that I've enjoyed checking in on.
177.200000 181.120000 So I kind of flip back and forth, and it's not that I'm sitting in front of the TV the whole
181.120000 182.120000 night.
182.120000 183.120000 It's just sort of on in the background.
183.120000 184.120000 And we check on it.
184.120000 187.960000 But when it comes time for the ball drop, we watch New York.
187.960000 188.960000 Yeah.
188.960000 190.680000 Because that's the time zone we live in.
190.680000 193.920000 Have you ever gone to the mushroom drop and Kennett Square?
193.920000 195.880000 I have not.
195.880000 201.240000 Dear listeners, in our sweet little hometown here, we are the mushroom capital of the world.
201.240000 203.920000 Most of you know that because you live here if you're listening.
203.920000 213.400000 But for those who don't, there is a lit, lighted mushroom that they drop downtown.
213.400000 218.320000 I think when the boys get a little older, we'll have to go at least once so they can stay
218.320000 220.480000 up to midnight and see the mushroom drop.
220.480000 223.080000 I feel like it's like a rite of passage if you live in Kennett Square.
223.080000 224.080000 I think so.
224.080000 225.080000 Yeah.
225.080000 226.080000 Yeah.
226.080000 227.840000 A lot of cities have that sort of thing.
227.840000 228.840000 Yeah.
228.840000 233.240000 The Lancaster they had a rose because there's a red, yeah, red rose city.
235.720000 240.960000 Lancaster Pennsylvania is the red rose city and York Pennsylvania is the white rose city.
240.960000 241.960000 Yeah.
241.960000 242.960000 I'm learning a lot today.
242.960000 243.960000 Yes, you are.
243.960000 247.040000 And because they were named for the houses of Lancaster, New York, so there's always sort
247.040000 249.440000 of this rivalry going on between those two cities.
249.440000 250.440000 It's fun.
250.440000 251.440000 That's fun.
251.440000 257.840000 I was telling Sarah before we started recording that New Year's Eve in my 40s looks drastically
257.840000 260.440000 different than it did in my 20s.
260.440000 262.440000 Now I sometimes don't even make it to midnight.
262.440000 268.920000 I was shocked to learn that as your kids get a little older, they will start asking to
268.920000 270.680000 stay up and then you'll have to stay up.
270.680000 272.200000 That's what happened with my son.
272.200000 273.200000 Yeah.
273.200000 275.040000 We've got a nice little wall right now.
275.040000 276.040000 Mm-hmm.
276.040000 279.240000 Before the late nights begin again, enjoy it while you can.
279.240000 280.880000 Yeah.
280.880000 287.640000 I like the markings of time and schedules and things that mark the change of seasons.
287.640000 298.360000 I thrive well in that kind of structure, but I'm not a huge New Year's Eve celebrator.
298.360000 300.080000 I like New Year's Eve.
300.080000 303.480000 It's always the time to have some extra celebration.
303.480000 305.000000 I like to celebrate.
305.000000 310.520000 One time I went to a friend's party when I was in my 20s at some other friend's apartment
310.520000 317.160000 and my ride, we went out to get in our car and her car had been towed.
317.160000 320.840000 So that was a very eventful New Year's Eve because then, no, I guess we both drove separately
320.840000 322.600000 because I drove her to the tow lot.
322.600000 327.760000 So that was the first thing I did that year was go to the tow lot and help my friend get
327.760000 331.160000 her car back in the middle of the night.
331.160000 334.280000 That's an auspicious start, right?
334.280000 338.820000 Same friend I had met up with at a coffee shop.
338.820000 341.240000 I can't remember if this was before or after the New Year's thing.
341.240000 344.640000 And I parked somewhere where I knew I wasn't supposed to park and we came out and my car
344.640000 348.640000 was in the process of getting towed and we flagged the tow truck down and were like, "No,
348.640000 350.640000 please stop."
350.640000 351.640000 That's funny.
351.640000 352.640000 Yeah.
352.640000 358.960000 No, I think it's fun to get all dressed up and have a sparkly earrings, a sparkly outfit
358.960000 367.280000 and sparkly champagne glasses, very festive, celebratory, very festive.
367.280000 369.520000 Starting off the year on a high note.
369.520000 376.480000 Well, and maybe one of the reasons why I like New Year's Eve so much is because for my
376.480000 382.800000 young adult life, I was working in a car dealership and we always closed early on New Year's
382.800000 385.840000 Eve and had off New Year's Day.
385.840000 392.400000 And especially if those days happened to fall on not a week and then I got extra days off
392.400000 393.400000 of work.
393.400000 395.540000 So I probably was happy to celebrate that.
395.540000 400.080000 So that could be very formative when you're giving extra time off of work.
400.080000 401.080000 Definitely.
401.080000 402.080000 Yeah, for sure.
402.080000 411.640000 So for our first New Year's Eve as Trustworthy podcast co-hosts, I thought it would be
411.640000 416.960000 good for us to just kind of take a moment and look back on the past year.
416.960000 423.920000 2024 was the beginning of our podcast and we started out very simply with an iPhone recording
423.920000 428.360000 a conversation which ended up being our pilot.
428.360000 433.960000 And then we got some fancy microphones and some recording equipment.
433.960000 437.920000 Who knows what this coming year is going to bring for the podcast, right?
437.920000 438.920000 More fancy equipment.
438.920000 441.200000 Look at a sponsor to build us an actual studio.
441.200000 447.080000 Yeah, maybe, or maybe I'll just invest in a better computer.
447.080000 449.360000 So let's take a look back.
449.360000 456.120000 We made some changes this second season and we brought in some guests, did some interviews.
456.120000 457.120000 That was fun.
457.120000 458.120000 It was fun.
458.120000 464.880000 And now that I'm thinking about it, we actually got to talk with quite a wide variety of guests.
464.880000 465.880000 We really did.
465.880000 471.000000 Maybe we should chat about like some of our favorite ones that stood out.
471.000000 474.000000 Do you remember the time we talked to Lucia?
474.000000 475.200000 Oh, yeah.
475.200000 476.200000 Yeah.
476.200000 477.200000 Lucia Prato.
477.200000 483.760000 She is actually the proprietor, proprietress, propriet- propriet- proprietors.
483.760000 485.120000 One of those.
485.120000 486.120000 Female proprietor.
486.120000 487.120000 Female business owner.
487.120000 488.120000 Female business owner.
488.120000 489.120000 Yes.
489.120000 490.120000 Shout out, right?
490.120000 492.160000 Of the Channel Z Biscotti bakery.
492.160000 493.160000 Best bakery room.
493.160000 494.160000 Absolutely.
494.160000 500.640000 Well, they now have a location in, I can't say the word Fio Mensino, anyway, I don't know
500.640000 504.440000 whatever, in the airport, room, whatever.
504.440000 510.080000 But well, what was the most surprising thing that you learned in that interview?
510.080000 511.080000 Yeah.
511.080000 518.840000 I was fascinated to learn how they came up with the name for the bakery because Channel
518.840000 524.040000 Z and Biscotti, to me, I was like, can you just talk about how
524.040000 525.660000 those kind of go together?
525.660000 526.660000 Right.
526.660000 529.480000 And her explanation of that, you remember that was pretty fascinating.
529.480000 533.000000 It all really went back to when she was starting to learn English.
533.000000 538.960000 And she had discovered, you know, one of my favorite bands, the B-52s, and listened to
538.960000 547.200000 the song, Channel Z, and really instead of knowing what the English words were, she just
547.200000 549.880000 thought they were talking about Biscotti, which is funny.
549.880000 557.080000 Did you know that Biscotti is just actually like a biscuit, it's like a cookie or a cracker
557.080000 558.080000 in Italy?
558.080000 560.720000 It's not what we think of as Biscotti.
560.720000 565.120000 The Biscotti that they, that we think of as Biscotti, that hard little cookie, which
565.120000 571.520000 is what we're talking about, is actually called Biscotti de Proto because that is the town
571.520000 574.520000 that it was made in.
574.520000 580.460000 And it's unique to that area and just become like an English-speaking country.
580.460000 582.400000 Oh, Biscotti, it's that cookie.
582.400000 587.160000 But if you say Biscotti in Italy, they're like, yeah, what are you talking about?
587.160000 588.160000 Do you want a cracker?
588.160000 589.360000 I never knew that.
589.360000 590.360000 Yeah.
590.360000 597.080000 So, but I think the thing that I was most interested to learn, my version of Biscotti is a lot
597.080000 603.080000 more involved because I usually add dried fruits and all sorts of things.
603.080000 608.940000 And really, the basic recipe and the reason why it's shelf-stable for so long is it's just
608.940000 615.600000 flour, sugar, a little bit of egg, water, and they do put in salt and pine nuts and almonds
615.600000 617.920000 and then you can add like some lemon zest.
617.920000 621.680000 Now, what was she saying that makes theirs different at their bakery?
621.680000 623.200000 They have like their own little spin.
623.200000 624.680000 They do have their own little spin.
624.680000 629.720000 So, when they do, so you bake it twice, it's a twice-bake cookie.
629.720000 635.560000 So you do like the long loaf sort of thing, you bake that and then you slice them and then
635.560000 637.000000 bake the slices.
637.000000 641.800000 But when they slice them, they score each Biscotti with a Z.
641.800000 642.800000 Oh, yeah.
642.800000 643.800000 That makes so much sense.
643.800000 644.800000 Yeah, of course.
644.800000 645.800000 Yeah.
645.800000 651.640000 So, you can say, really, as you eat it, I love my Biscotti, scored with a Z.
651.640000 653.720000 She's such a great guest.
653.720000 656.240000 I learned so much about food and music.
656.240000 661.200000 And I can just listen to her Italian accent just, oh, right, makes me want to go back to
661.200000 662.200000 Italy for sure.
662.200000 663.600000 It makes me want to Biscotti.
663.600000 666.680000 I do love it.
666.680000 671.560000 Mentioning the B-52s that reminded me, remember when we chatted with the Duga Girls?
671.560000 674.600000 Oh, that was a high energy interview.
674.600000 676.360000 They were amazing.
676.360000 684.320000 So, they're this group from the '60s that were so popular when do-wop and Motown and
684.320000 686.720000 all these types of music were coming up.
686.720000 691.000000 And then, you know, as things go in the music industry, things kind of fizzled out for them.
691.000000 695.800000 But then they started this reunion tour, like two years ago, because they're now, I mean,
695.800000 696.800000 I don't want to out them.
696.800000 698.160000 But they're not young anymore.
698.160000 704.080000 I think there's literally like a group geriatric doctor that travels with them.
704.080000 708.400000 And the half behind the curtains is a walker and all that sort of thing.
708.400000 711.600000 But did you know the caps, things they're wearing on their heads are the original ones?
711.600000 712.600000 Nice.
712.600000 713.600000 From their group.
713.600000 715.880000 And they wore them here, like, to the studio.
715.880000 716.880000 I know.
716.880000 717.880000 And they all dressed the same.
717.880000 720.880000 They had their whole outfits going, it was amazing.
720.880000 723.840000 And they were talking about, or if they were talking about new dance moves, that they're
723.840000 729.120000 trying to incorporate in their reunion tour since they started out in the '60s and now
729.120000 732.120000 they're kind of doing the trying thing, trying to connect the Gen Z.
732.120000 733.120000 That's right.
733.120000 736.680000 They're trying to bring in a younger audience kind of in their golden years to carry on
736.680000 739.680000 the traditions of the Duga Girls.
739.680000 746.140000 And so one of the things they're learning is the Dougie, which now is a few years old.
746.140000 747.840000 So we'll see what they learn next.
747.840000 752.020000 I was trying to think of things we could flag for them to be like, "Hey, you should incorporate
752.020000 753.920000 this in your show."
753.920000 758.520000 Like flossing, twerking, dabbing, I don't know.
758.520000 762.120000 Some of them might throw out their backs during some of that, but it's true.
762.120000 763.440000 They were so entertaining.
763.440000 771.600000 I think just to hear their story of how they became so famous, even though they were misunderstood
771.600000 773.640000 at first.
773.640000 778.360000 And just that redemption story of, even if you're misunderstood, it doesn't mean the end
778.360000 779.360000 of your career.
779.360000 780.960000 It can actually start something new.
780.960000 786.840000 Well, and I think, too, sometimes misunderstandings can lead to that sort of new experience or
786.840000 795.120000 that new place, sometimes change happens because there's a misunderstanding.
795.120000 800.200000 So if you see the Duga Girls coming to your town by tickets, check it out or you're new
800.200000 801.200000 show.
801.200000 802.200000 Absolutely.
802.200000 803.200000 It's so much fun.
803.200000 807.520000 I mean, it's 45 minutes and it's usually at four o'clock.
807.520000 808.520000 That's okay.
808.520000 809.520000 It's worth it.
809.520000 810.520000 That's worth it.
810.520000 811.520000 Hey, you know what?
811.520000 813.720000 It's great about the four o'clock and 45 minute.
813.720000 817.860000 You can still get in for the early bird special before six after the show.
817.860000 819.800000 You could get some biscotti in a coffee.
819.800000 820.800000 Absolutely.
820.800000 821.800000 There you go.
821.800000 822.800000 All right.
822.800000 826.400000 Speaking of misunderstood, what else are you remembering?
826.400000 837.280000 Well, I'm remembering Miss Underfoot, who was our guest, probably the most disturbing guest
837.280000 838.280000 we've had.
838.280000 840.080000 It was kind of a dark episode.
840.080000 841.360000 It was a dark episode.
841.360000 849.960000 Yeah, it was heavy and Miss Underfoot actually lives in my house in the same place as the
849.960000 857.440000 studio, which is again, the little disturbing, but it just really came about very organically.
857.440000 861.120000 I had been sorting through Christmas decorations in the basement, getting things ready.
861.120000 864.320000 I start very early because of all the hosting that we do.
864.320000 867.640000 The biggest party we have is usually the beginning of December.
867.640000 870.440000 So we need to start early.
870.440000 878.920000 And I saw this Miss Underfoot and kind of freaked out.
878.920000 884.520000 And shockingly enough, she's like, hey, I just want to let you know that this really hurts
884.520000 885.520000 my feelings.
885.520000 890.120000 And I was like, okay, a bug just talked to me.
890.120000 891.120000 Yeah.
891.120000 892.120000 Mind blown.
892.120000 893.120000 Yeah.
893.120000 899.920000 So she's a house centipede, which again, I'm not really a fan of centipedes because they
899.920000 903.840000 remind me of other creatures.
903.840000 911.720000 Anyway, she was pretty disappointed because she always sees the hustle and bustle, the gifts,
911.720000 915.080000 the decorations coming in out of the basement, all the planning.
915.080000 919.520000 And she really was feeling left out and let me know it.
919.520000 924.960000 You know, we have a conversation with those people that, and I think you noticed this
924.960000 929.200000 as we were interviewing her, but I think she hasn't a priority complex.
929.200000 930.200000 Yeah.
930.200000 934.640000 I think that's like, if I was, and I know we're not medical professionals are like that.
934.640000 941.320000 But if I had to give it a name, I think that would be it because she constantly was saying
941.320000 947.240000 things like, well, even though I'm eating like all of these nasty bugs and things in your
947.240000 950.560000 house, I just, I just know that I'm not doing my part.
950.560000 954.400000 I know that there are other centipedes that do a better job of keeping the nasty pests
954.400000 963.040000 away and like, I just, I just don't always measure up and I'm like, okay, like nobody's said
963.040000 964.960000 that you weren't doing a good job.
964.960000 970.760000 Like, and I, I have to admit that like, I didn't even really know that she was doing that
970.760000 971.760000 for me.
971.760000 972.760000 Right.
972.760000 976.400000 And so we definitely misunderstood which is something that all of us could relate to
976.400000 977.400000 from that interview.
977.400000 982.680000 Was there things that we do that maybe other people don't realize or don't recognize
982.680000 987.200000 in our own lives and the fact that she was brave enough to voice that, I really respected
987.200000 988.200000 her for that.
988.200000 989.200000 That's true.
989.200000 994.280000 Although she did kind of freak out when I was like, well, like no offense, but you look
994.280000 999.560000 kind of creepy and she just like went off, which I guess that was not the right thing
999.560000 1000.560000 to say.
1000.560000 1002.680000 I mean, I, I do feel bad.
1002.680000 1003.680000 I'm sorry.
1003.680000 1004.680000 Yes.
1004.680000 1005.680000 On her foot.
1005.680000 1006.680000 Yeah.
1006.680000 1007.680000 Public apology right now.
1007.680000 1008.680000 Yeah.
1008.680000 1009.680000 If she's listening to this episode.
1009.680000 1010.680000 Which she is.
1010.680000 1011.680000 Yeah.
1011.680000 1013.280000 Or she will.
1013.280000 1019.480000 And I guess I do want to say that it's worth getting to know people before you make a
1019.480000 1021.960000 judgment call or before you step on them.
1021.960000 1023.200000 Well, that's exactly it.
1023.200000 1024.200000 Yeah.
1024.200000 1028.400000 Because it's very easy to step all over this on her foot and her kin.
1028.400000 1029.560000 That's right.
1029.560000 1036.400000 But giving them the time and the space to express kind of how they're feeling about their
1036.400000 1040.880000 situation and it's good, it's good to understand what people do for you.
1040.880000 1041.880000 Yeah.
1041.880000 1042.880000 You got to look out for the little guy.
1042.880000 1046.920000 So maybe I will think about including her and my Christmas list at some point.
1046.920000 1047.920000 Yeah.
1047.920000 1054.660000 Well, it was a good thing that we did not interview Ms. Underfoot the same day that we had
1054.660000 1056.680000 one of our other guests.
1056.680000 1059.320000 Oh, are you thinking about the turkey?
1059.320000 1060.320000 I am.
1060.320000 1061.320000 Yeah.
1061.320000 1062.320000 That could have been.
1062.320000 1063.320000 Could have been nasty.
1063.320000 1064.320000 Yeah.
1064.320000 1065.320000 Could have had a unhappy ending.
1065.320000 1066.320000 That's right.
1066.320000 1068.840000 No violence here on the trustworthy podcast.
1068.840000 1069.960000 No, not at all.
1069.960000 1074.520000 But I really enjoyed our chat with the pardoned turkey.
1074.520000 1080.160000 They actually brought along their pal to the interview because in retrospect, back that
1080.160000 1085.280000 episode now, I think I didn't realize ahead of time that the now there's actually two pardoned
1085.280000 1089.080000 turkeys every year that the president does not just one.
1089.080000 1092.600000 And so they, you know, you had to like give a shout out to his buddy that was with him.
1092.600000 1093.600000 Yeah.
1093.600000 1094.600000 This was Franklin.
1094.600000 1096.880000 Franklin was the one that we interviewed and he brought Benny with him.
1096.880000 1097.880000 Yeah.
1097.880000 1099.480000 Franklin, Benny.
1099.480000 1105.040000 And to me, it was just such a, you know, peak behind the curtain of what happens at the White
1105.040000 1106.040000 House.
1106.040000 1107.040000 Oh, yeah.
1107.040000 1110.760000 And it was so fun for our listeners to hear what the turkeys get to see and do the day
1110.760000 1111.760000 that they're pardoned.
1111.760000 1113.040000 And they don't even know what's happening.
1113.040000 1115.000000 That was the part that blew my mind.
1115.000000 1120.040000 They travel from Minnesota where they live to the White House and they don't know where they're
1120.040000 1121.040000 going.
1121.040000 1124.160000 Their owners don't tell them then they show up at the White House that part of the story
1124.160000 1125.160000 like blew my mind.
1125.160000 1129.080000 Well, and I guess this would be probably the first time they're on a plane.
1129.080000 1130.080000 Yeah.
1130.080000 1134.680000 And, you know, they see their other friends leave and never come back.
1134.680000 1138.200000 And so they don't know what's happening and they probably assume the worst.
1138.200000 1139.520000 Yeah.
1139.520000 1144.200000 And so to get to, you know, walk around in the White House and meet the president and have
1144.200000 1147.960000 a whole speech given in your honor, it really changed our life.
1147.960000 1152.200000 And so to hear about, you know, how that really changed their lives and this kind of once
1152.200000 1154.480000 in a lifetime experience.
1154.480000 1159.400000 And now how they're, you know, advocating for other people to, you know, just pick your
1159.400000 1160.400000 head up.
1160.400000 1161.400000 You don't know what's going to happen to you.
1161.400000 1162.400000 Look around.
1162.400000 1166.200000 They're on this whole, this whole kind of campaign now, which is, which is fascinating
1166.200000 1169.840000 to watch, which all of that really happened soon after our interview.
1169.840000 1172.480000 So it's been fun to kind of keep up with them.
1172.480000 1173.680000 I'm not going to lie.
1173.680000 1179.320000 I'm going to say that I kind of feel a little responsible for that whole thing because
1179.320000 1186.760000 I feel like if we hadn't had them on the podcast, it's right to give them a turkey platform
1186.760000 1190.080000 that people may not know, right?
1190.080000 1191.080000 Yeah.
1191.080000 1192.080000 Yeah.
1192.080000 1195.920000 And they would maybe not have had the gumption to move forward with.
1195.920000 1196.920000 That's right.
1196.920000 1198.280000 I mean, they got the rights to free bird.
1198.280000 1201.480000 And so now that is their song that they can play whenever they make appearances.
1201.480000 1203.400000 I mean, talk about making it big.
1203.400000 1204.400000 I know.
1204.400000 1205.400000 Yeah.
1205.400000 1206.880000 That's amazing.
1206.880000 1210.040000 So they are back home in Minnesota.
1210.040000 1212.320000 I just heard from them recently.
1212.320000 1217.200000 They've had quite a tour the past, you know, a couple of months here since being parted.
1217.200000 1219.160000 And I'm curious to see what happens for them.
1219.160000 1220.160000 They'll be interesting.
1220.160000 1221.160000 Yeah.
1221.160000 1223.760000 So we'll just give, hey, shout out to Franklin and Benny.
1223.760000 1224.760000 Happy New Year.
1224.760000 1225.760000 That's right.
1225.760000 1226.760000 Happy New Year.
1226.760000 1227.760000 All right.
1227.760000 1229.320000 One of the, I don't know.
1229.320000 1231.120000 I mean, I really enjoyed Luchia.
1231.120000 1237.840000 As I said, I really admire her, just the way she's expanding the channels that he brand, but
1237.840000 1245.280000 one of the other interviewees that I probably identified most with was the basic fall girl.
1245.280000 1256.360000 I think the thing that really connected me to her situation was that feeling of wanting
1256.360000 1262.040000 to set the record straight and I know that we've been able to do that a couple times.
1262.040000 1267.660000 Sometimes it went into joking manner, but seriously, just say, hey, you know, I don't really
1267.660000 1273.520000 mean to make you feel like you're inadequate, like in my case, I was like, I really just want
1273.520000 1274.520000 to help.
1274.520000 1276.720000 And so sometimes my advice is too much.
1276.720000 1281.720000 But in her case, she just wanted to say, hey, it wasn't me.
1281.720000 1289.800000 It really wasn't me and just to have to live with the weight of taking the fall for everything
1289.800000 1292.440000 over and over and over and over again.
1292.440000 1293.440000 Yeah.
1293.440000 1303.640000 I mean, I just don't understand how one person could be blamed or so many things and she
1303.640000 1304.640000 just keeps going.
1304.640000 1305.640000 She keeps trying.
1305.640000 1306.640000 Yeah.
1306.640000 1311.460000 She keeps putting herself out there because, I mean, this started back when she was like in
1311.460000 1312.460000 high school.
1312.460000 1313.460000 I think so.
1313.460000 1315.440000 Or junior high or something.
1315.440000 1316.440000 Yeah.
1316.440000 1320.080000 I think was it the fire alarm or was it the nail polish?
1320.080000 1321.080000 What was the first thing?
1321.080000 1326.240000 I think the fire alarm was first because she was talking about how this she was so confused
1326.240000 1328.800000 about it because she wasn't even at school that day.
1328.800000 1329.800000 Yes.
1329.800000 1333.080000 The fire alarm went off at school and the sprinkler system started going.
1333.080000 1334.080000 Yes.
1334.080000 1337.840000 She said a student had done a prank and pulled the fire alarm.
1337.840000 1341.360000 And she was at a doctor's appointment or something when it happened.
1341.360000 1342.360000 Yeah.
1342.360000 1343.360000 And all of her friends.
1343.360000 1344.360000 It's planted on her.
1344.360000 1345.360000 Blame each other.
1345.360000 1346.360000 Yeah.
1346.360000 1347.360000 Well, former friends.
1347.360000 1348.360000 That's right.
1348.360000 1349.360000 Let's be clear.
1349.360000 1350.360000 Friends at the time.
1350.360000 1351.360000 That's the time.
1351.360000 1353.600000 And so she had to take the fall for it.
1353.600000 1357.680000 And that just set up this repeated pattern in her life.
1357.680000 1360.480000 And then she got detention.
1360.480000 1361.720000 She wasn't even in school.
1361.720000 1368.160000 And then that just mind boggling because the police came to her house to look for her because
1368.160000 1372.680000 of the shoplifting incident with the 99 bottles of nail polish, the wet and wild.
1372.680000 1373.680000 Yup.
1373.680000 1377.880000 The girls had gone and stolen them from right aid and blamed it on her.
1377.880000 1382.400000 She was at home serving out of school suspension or whatever it was.
1382.400000 1383.800000 And the police or the fire alarm.
1383.800000 1384.800000 For the fire alarm.
1384.800000 1385.800000 Get it.
1385.800000 1386.800000 Yeah.
1386.800000 1387.800000 Yeah.
1387.800000 1388.800000 Talk about adding insult to injury.
1388.800000 1389.800000 Yeah.
1389.800000 1390.800000 But somehow she persevered.
1390.800000 1395.000000 And actually got kicked out the third semester.
1395.000000 1401.120000 She was there her first semester of her sophomore year because again, someone had stolen
1401.120000 1407.720000 the test key from the proctor and put it in her dorm room.
1407.720000 1412.280000 And when they did a search, yeah, the honor council.
1412.280000 1414.360000 Somebody tried to frame her.
1414.360000 1416.040000 And so they searched her room and found it.
1416.040000 1418.240000 She of course had no idea how it got there.
1418.240000 1422.680000 I mean, that's pretty serious once you get to college level and, you know, that can threaten
1422.680000 1424.440000 your future of your education.
1424.440000 1426.200000 But somehow she made it through.
1426.200000 1428.200000 She got out of that one too.
1428.200000 1435.080000 And what was it that she kind of has like a mantra phrase, a thing that she kind of lives
1435.080000 1437.160000 by that helps her get through these?
1437.160000 1438.160000 What was that?
1438.160000 1439.160000 Do you remember what she said?
1439.160000 1440.160000 Let me think.
1440.160000 1444.240000 I want to get her words exactly right here.
1444.240000 1446.040000 If not me, then who?
1446.040000 1447.040000 That's right.
1447.040000 1448.040000 Yeah.
1448.040000 1450.280000 It's a great rhetorical question.
1450.280000 1452.480000 But I think it's also like a challenge for her.
1452.480000 1454.800000 She's like, you know what?
1454.800000 1459.160000 People will end up being convicted someday.
1459.160000 1464.600000 They will end up feeling the weight of what they've done.
1464.600000 1470.040000 And if it's not me to stand in the gap to take the blame, then who?
1470.040000 1475.600000 But I will say, I mean, I would not be able to take that stance.
1475.600000 1478.200000 I would be so angry.
1478.200000 1479.200000 Just the story.
1479.200000 1480.200000 Oh, my gosh.
1480.200000 1481.200000 It was like what?
1481.200000 1487.640000 In September of this year, she went on a girl's weekend, New York City, the whole nine,
1487.640000 1493.360000 Madison Avenue for that shopping, whatever, and they were in that little boutique in the
1493.360000 1494.360000 fashion district.
1494.360000 1495.680000 Oh, looking at dresses.
1495.680000 1496.680000 Looking at dresses.
1496.680000 1497.680000 Yeah.
1497.680000 1498.680000 You know, they have the samples asale.
1498.680000 1501.680000 But some of those are still really expensive.
1501.680000 1504.680000 And one of her friends and listeners, you can't see this.
1504.680000 1506.800000 But I like how air quotes going here.
1506.800000 1511.760000 One of her friends had tried on one of these gowns, Diana on first and I don't know who it
1511.760000 1518.680000 was, but it was like a $2,000 gown, even at the sample sale and got lipstick on it.
1518.680000 1521.440000 It was like, how do you say that, echo?
1521.440000 1522.440000 Yeah.
1522.440000 1523.440000 Like that.
1523.440000 1524.440000 Yeah.
1524.440000 1525.440000 Yeah.
1525.440000 1527.520000 With this gorgeous feather beading with like, I don't know.
1527.520000 1528.520000 She described this dress to me.
1528.520000 1529.520000 It's not amazing.
1529.520000 1535.480000 But anyway, they she had gone in, she had picked up like some sort of like scarf.
1535.480000 1542.200000 I think it was like alpaca, I don't know alpaca, casual mirror, casual mirror, and she paid
1542.200000 1543.520000 for it and left.
1543.520000 1545.360000 And she was in the cafe down the street.
1545.360000 1551.000000 And then next day she looks at her statement and there's a $2,000 charge from this little boutique.
1551.000000 1555.640000 And it turns out that one of the girls tried on the dress, got the lipstick on it.
1555.640000 1558.720000 And then when the sales clerk brought it up, they're like, oh, it was her.
1558.720000 1560.940000 So they weren't going to buy it, right?
1560.940000 1561.940000 They weren't going to buy it.
1561.940000 1566.320000 Well, so what happened was they're like, oh, it was, you know, my friend, whatever.
1566.320000 1570.360000 So they already had her debit card on file from the casual mirror scarf, so they charged
1570.360000 1574.160000 her two grand out of her checking account.
1574.160000 1577.400000 And did you hear, do you remember what she said, what happened to the dress?
1577.400000 1579.080000 They damaged it out and gave it to the friends.
1579.080000 1580.080000 Yeah.
1580.080000 1583.400000 So this girl that got the lipstick on it and lied about it, got the dress.
1583.400000 1590.400000 $2,000 on first and burg sample and didn't even pay for it.
1590.400000 1594.280000 And basic fall girl took the fall again.
1594.280000 1595.280000 Yeah.
1595.280000 1596.880000 What a life she has lived.
1596.880000 1597.880000 Yeah.
1597.880000 1599.680000 Anyway, we just started to go fund me for her.
1599.680000 1601.280000 Yeah, maybe we should.
1601.280000 1603.680000 I feel like people would, I mean, I would get five bucks to that.
1603.680000 1604.680000 Right.
1604.680000 1606.880000 At least enough to reimburse the dress.
1606.880000 1607.880000 Yeah.
1607.880000 1608.880000 Oh.
1608.880000 1609.880000 Poor girl.
1609.880000 1610.880000 Yeah.
1610.880000 1613.720000 Well, one of the more upbeat interviews we did.
1613.720000 1614.720000 Oh, yeah.
1614.720000 1615.720000 This was so much fun.
1615.720000 1616.720000 Yeah.
1616.720000 1617.720000 This was just a couple of weeks ago.
1617.720000 1618.720000 That's right.
1618.720000 1624.200000 It was just in one of our recent episodes was, uh, Mr. Nutcracker, which, who doesn't love
1624.200000 1627.240000 a nutcracker at Christmas time is such a fun interview.
1627.240000 1629.040000 Did he say we can call him Woody?
1629.040000 1630.040000 Is that okay?
1630.040000 1635.280000 I mean, I think maybe we can to, to his face, but I don't know if like in our episodes
1635.280000 1636.280000 about that.
1636.280000 1637.280000 Yeah, because it's kind of, yeah.
1637.280000 1638.280000 Okay, let's not.
1638.280000 1639.280000 Okay, Mr. Nutcracker.
1639.280000 1642.400000 It's normal for the podcast, but we're just hanging out with him.
1642.400000 1643.400000 Yeah.
1643.400000 1644.640000 We can call him Woody.
1644.640000 1648.640000 So just his story of kind of being your typical Nutcracker.
1648.640000 1650.120000 He's doing his day job.
1650.120000 1653.400000 He's helping people shell and crack nuts, especially around the holidays.
1653.400000 1658.920000 He gets really busy working in the nut factory, uh, and especially this time of year on top
1658.920000 1662.520000 of that, he also performs in the local ballet.
1662.520000 1667.680000 And so he's kind of this, you know, modern day Renaissance man, you know, hands on worker
1667.680000 1670.560000 who also dances ballet.
1670.560000 1676.440000 And then why we had him on the show was he's added on to even those responsibilities because
1676.440000 1683.840000 he's heard about how live Christmas trees have become more and more popular and he is now
1683.840000 1687.480000 a lobbyist for artificial Christmas trees.
1687.480000 1690.360000 And his whole platform, he goes to Washington DC.
1690.360000 1691.360000 He visits lawmakers.
1691.360000 1693.360000 You may have seen him on cable news.
1693.360000 1696.120000 He's been doing a lot of interviews the past month.
1696.120000 1701.200000 He's pointing out that the purchase of live Christmas trees is actually damaging the
1701.200000 1703.440000 nut cracker population.
1703.440000 1708.320000 There is a shortage of trees available for the nut cracker population.
1708.320000 1715.280000 And he is creating a platform for himself to to talk to people in spheres of influence
1715.280000 1718.200000 about this and raise awareness.
1718.200000 1719.520000 That's amazing.
1719.520000 1721.560000 I had really admire that.
1721.560000 1729.240000 I think that you can find a cause that is so integral to your being that it just sort
1729.240000 1734.400000 of fuels your passion and just lights a fire for the future.
1734.400000 1736.400000 That's right.
1736.400000 1743.640000 Hopefully a fire that will not devastate these trees that he is advocating about, but the
1743.640000 1747.680000 other thing that was fun about chatting with him is he was telling us kind of the different
1747.680000 1751.400000 types of trees.
1751.400000 1756.560000 There are certain trees that are good for helping the nut cracker population.
1756.560000 1761.440000 And so it was an interesting idea that he posed and I don't know how this is going to
1761.440000 1762.440000 fly.
1762.440000 1768.560000 But that people should instead of using kind of your ever greens, your pine trees,
1768.560000 1772.200000 your fir trees for live Christmas trees.
1772.200000 1777.560000 He was saying that people should use palm trees all across the world as Christmas trees
1777.560000 1782.280000 and I don't I don't know if that's going to take off or not, but we'll see what happens.
1782.280000 1786.920000 I thought we already had problems with the palm trees, with the palm oil and that.
1786.920000 1787.920000 Yeah.
1787.920000 1792.120000 And I just don't know that I think like the the cost of getting us, but what about the
1792.120000 1793.120000 artificial?
1793.120000 1796.800000 I mean, I'm a big fan of the live looking artificial tree.
1796.800000 1797.800000 Right.
1797.800000 1802.960000 Is that I think that's his like baseline platform and then he's trying to appease some
1802.960000 1806.680000 of the live free folks by suggesting a palm tree is a replacement, but I don't know.
1806.680000 1812.960000 We'll see how it goes, but always fun to chat with him, hear about his ballet adventures,
1812.960000 1816.320000 all the different features of nutcrackers these days and how they're working hard.
1816.320000 1823.360000 And also to really understand the way that people process nuts and which are the most popular
1823.360000 1830.240000 nut varieties, various times of year, I was really surprised to learn that their busy
1830.240000 1836.680000 season is actually prior to Thanksgiving and that pecans are of course the nut of choice.
1836.680000 1841.840000 There's just a lot of pecan pie for Thanksgiving, more so than Christmas, which I always sort
1841.840000 1847.920000 of thought of pumpkin as a Thanksgiving pie and pecan is Christmas, but didn't people do
1847.920000 1848.920000 a pecan at Thanksgiving?
1848.920000 1849.920000 Yes.
1849.920000 1854.920000 But I was just surprised that the volume of pecans that they're cracking is bigger in the
1854.920000 1855.920000 lead up to Thanksgiving.
1855.920000 1856.920000 Yeah.
1856.920000 1857.920000 It's super informative interview.
1857.920000 1861.720000 I learned a ton, but man, we've just had so many good guests there.
1861.720000 1862.720000 We really have.
1862.720000 1869.220000 It's pretty amazing how we started with just you and me on an iPhone, all the way up to
1869.220000 1873.360000 the pardon turkeys fresh from the White House and it's been an amazing year.
1873.360000 1876.480000 International interviewees, I'm pretty excited.
1876.480000 1882.000000 It'll be interesting to see what 2025 brings.
1882.000000 1883.000000 I know.
1883.000000 1884.000000 How can it get better?
1884.000000 1885.000000 We'll have to wait and see.
1885.000000 1892.920000 Well, dear listeners, it has been a joy spending time with you on this New Year's Eve.
1892.920000 1898.520000 Whether you stay up till midnight or not, whether you watch the ball drop, whether you, however

1902.820000 1904.320000 Happy New Year.
1904.320000 1905.720000 Happy New Year.
1905.720000 1910.420000 And should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
1910.420000 1926.820000 All the think of days gone by, otherwise known as Old Langzai.
1926.820000 1929.140000 Hey y'all, Mary Beth here.
1929.140000 1932.700000 Sarah and I are so glad that you chose to listen to our podcast.
1932.700000 1937.780000 And while we think that we're awesome friends to have, we just wanted to clarify that we are
